The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that one out of four people globally will be impacted by mental illness at some point in their lives.

When international fashion model Adwoa Aboah was younger, she struggled with her mental health, but the stigma of women being “hysterical” or “dramatic” if they spoke out about their issues kept her silent. This inspired her to start Gurls Talk, a community-led non-profit organisation providing a safe space for girls and women to share their mental health and well-being stories.

In this panel, Adwoa and two of her Gurls Talk Ambassadors, Dawn Bangi and McKenna Kelley, discuss how we dismantle mental health stigma, how self-care is not one-size-fits-all, and the importance of building supportive communities where girls feel safe to talk about their mental health.
