The Red Carpet is the place for epic fashion statements and unforgettable looks. But did you know it’s also a place of law and order? Even celebs have to follow some pretty strict rules when making an appearance. At the Met Gala, for example, selfies are strictly prohibited! Thinking about bucking the theme? Think again. Anna Wintour expects compliance from her guests. And while times are changing, dress codes are not. At the Cannes film festival and at the Oscars, ladies are expected to wear gowns and high heels. Men are expected to be in tuxedos or suits. But some renegades like Timothee Chalomet and Kristin Stewart are bending the rules and we love them for it. Stars are also not allowed to have food on the red carpet. And bathroom breaks? They better not be more than fifteen minutes unless a celeb wants to risk missing their entrance, making the whole affair rather arduous. The rules not only apply to the awards ceremony itself but the after party too. Celebs are given specific times they can enter and if they miss it…well, it’s back to the end of the line. Some newer rules reflect our changing times, like asking for sustainable wear from celebs and allowing (at least during the pandemic) some more casual looks. But otherwise, these ancient rules don’t seem to be going anywhere.
