It’s the 1930s, before the outbreak of WWII, and Ettore Bugatti has shown the world he can build fast cars. In fact, his cars weren’t just fast, but some of the fastest, winning over 200 races in the 20s and 30s. But now, Ettore set his sights higher and began toying with the idea of developing an aircraft to take the world landplane speed record, which Howard Hughes then held in the Hughes H-1 Racer at a speed of 352 mph.
The resulting aircraft, designed alongside Bugatti’s chief engineer Louis de Monge, would be called the 100P, and it would be the most beautiful aircraft you’ve never heard of.
