Is the Counselor in Persona 5 Royal, Dr. Maruki, actually any good at counseling? Well I have compiled all of the videos from the 'Counseling Student REACTS...' series that I had filmed over 3 years ago now, in which I sought to answer this question. While I have since received my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, these were my thoughts and assessments of Dr. Takuto Maruki's counseling sessions. Are his methods effective? Or more importantly are they ethical? While it's clear that Atlus have nocked it out of the park with the characterization of Dr. Takuto Maruki, what I want to consider is what effect his counseling sessions could actually have on the Phantom Thieves that he meets with and how this would relate to a real-world counseling context.

I do want to note that all counselors will come at situations from different theoretical orientations, backgrounds, and belief systems. My opinions correlate with my own education and professional experience up to this point in my education.
