presents episode 1846 | DR ALEX PETRUSHEVSKI

Peak bone density [around 35 yrs old] will help determine
how careful you need to be about this later in life…
To build bone--what is in it: hydroxyapatite is
-calcium & phosphorus
-minerals
-40% of bone is protein:
-type 1 collagen

Calcium makes up major portion of bone tissue…
-high calcium supplements is not effective against
osteoporosis fractures
High doses can cause kidney stones and calcification
of arteries
Vitamin D is helpful
-needed for bone
growth
-if low: fractures UP

Vitamin D alone, even in high doses, is not very useful…
Combining both calcium & vitamin D, shows:
-increase in bone density
-fractures down 15%
-hip fractures dn 30%
Also in postmenopausal
women

Vitamin K: important for clotting & preventing coronary
artery calcification & for helping osteocalcium…
K1, in plants, good for clotting factors
K2, in meat, good for bones, especially:
MK4: eggs, meat, liver
MK7: fermented foods
dairy, natto
RDA: 120mcg men
90mcg women

Standard high carb diet is deficient in K2 and
it is fat soluble, so low fat diets are deficient
