Audi invited Overtake to a range sample day where we were given the chance to drive the latest Audi R8 Spyder 620 PS Carbon Black edition.

Join us for our drive impression and review of the V10 powered Audi R8.

With the push towards all electric and Audi announcing that their entire range of new vehicles will be electric from 2025, the 2021 Audi R8 V10 Performance looks set to be the last R8. This then, is a landmark car, it's 620ps naturally aspirated V10 engine marks the pinnacle of where the internal combustion era took Audi. Audi have produced some incredible engines over the years and this V10 stands amongst them, it really is a truly special engine. During our drive experience and review of the R8, it was the pure emotive experience offered by the V10 that really stood out. With the 8,700 rpm redline, The sound was spine-tingling, and way more so than we had anticipated. The engine howls and screams it’s way to the redline and in the mid range offers a deep bark, it sounds mechanical, which isn’t often something you can say about modern engines equipped with all the latest fuel saving technology on offer.

The whole car impressed us, it felt sharp to drive and offered a decent degree of feedback through the steering wheel, especially for a modern power assisted setup. The chassis felt ultra dialled in. Of course it didn’t wriggle away in your fingers the way a classic non power assisted sports car might, but the overwhelming sensation of engine noise and performance on offer more than made up for this.

Ultimately, you should be able to tell from our expressions just how much fun we had with this car.
