Descendants 4 TEASER! Descendants 4: The Pocketwatch just got announced by China Annne McClain (Uma) at D23. In this video, I discuss the announcement of the movie, give my own thoughts on it, and further theorize and explain what the movie will be about and which actors will return.

The Pocketwatch announcement starts with China Anne McClain (Uma) coming on stage of the D23 Expo, who begins to tell that the Descendants story is far from over. The story will follow new characters Red, daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, daugther of Cinderella, as they uncover a plot which threathens Auradon. With the help of a pocketwatch which allows them to time travel, Red and Chloe set out to save Auradon.

China is then joined on stage by Kylie Cantrell and Dara Reneé.

It is unclear whether or not main characters of the first three movies: Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson, and Jay (BooBoo Stewart) will return in The Pocketwatch. Especially considering the fact that a vital member of the group, Carlos (Cameron Boyce) has passed away. This video further highlights a video of Dove Cameron explaining how difficult it would be to create a Descendants 4 without Cameron (Carlos).

The announcement ends with China hugging the new cast members and announcing that the movie will start shooting early next year (2023)!

In “The Pocketwatch,” the expansive new story introduces “Red,” the whip-smart and rebellious teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts (“Alice in Wonderland”) and “Chloe,” the perfectionist and athletic daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming (“Cinderella”). In order to prevent an impending coup in Auradon – one that looms during the celebration of a new royal baby –, Red must join forces with Chloe to travel in back in time, via the White Rabbit’s pocket watch, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.

China Anne McClain will return as Uma Kylie Cantrall and Dara Reneé join the cast.

Jennifer Phang (The Flight Attendant, Foundation) will be replacing Kenny Ortega as director of the new film from a script written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer (“Magic: The Gathering”). Phang also serves as co-EP.

Returning to the franchise is production designer Mark Hofeling (“Descendants,” “Zombies,” “High School Musical”). Gary Marsh is an executive producer and the casting directors are Alexis Frank Koczara and Christine Smith Shevchenko (Disney Branded Television’s upcoming “The Naughty Nine,” “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” “black-ish” and “grown-ish”).
