Italy: Milan Wants to Ban Gelato Ice Cream and Pizza Sales After Midnight | Firstpost America
The Italian city of Milan has proposed a new law to ban the sale of takeaway food, including its famous gelato and pizza. The measure has been introduced to tackle excessive noise, litter and public disorder in residential areas of Milan's 12 busiest districts. According to Milan's Deputy Mayor of Security, Marco Granelli, the possible ban would preserve the city's tranquility. However, critics of the law say that the ban goes against common sense and the Italian culture. They want the authorities to remove gelato and pizza from the list of banned food items. This is not the first time Milan has faced such a law. In 2013, authorities brought a similar ban, which received massive criticism from residents. Ice cream sellers of Milan protested heavily, forcing the then-mayor to take a U-turn and "correct his mistake".
