The wiper deicer switch (or defroster switch) operates when the engine is running. The deicer is used to remove ice from the windshield when a wiper is frozen to the windshield.

When the switch is pushed the indicator light illuminates and the deicer operates for approximately 10 minutes. After the preset time has passed, the deicer will turn off automatically. To turn off the deicer manually, push the deicer switch again and the indicator light turns off.

It doesn’t: heat up the entire windshield so it’s not a “heated windshield”. It doesn’t adjust or impact the air flow. It’s to melt the ice on your wiper blades and/or prevent new ice from forming. The defroster only does so much when it comes to melting ice specifically around the wiper blades.

Front defroster switch. This is the button that will send maximum airflow to your windshield to defog or de-ice the entire front windshield. It’s not the heated windshield function (Mitsubishi doesn’t offer it) but this blasts the maximum air for a quick defrost. And once you turn it on you will hear the fan working at maximum speed.

Electric rear window defroster switch. This option is used to defog or defrost the rear window glass and door mirrors (if so equipped - standard in Canada). Only works when the engine is running. It will automatically turn off in approximately 20 min. So keep in mind that if you only want to defrost the mirrors, you have to press this button even though it displays the rear window switch. It’s one button with 2 functions basically.
