An uninspiring powertrain and a few noted tech gremlins are among the few downsides.

Yes, the 2023 Outlander is a good SUV. It sports a swanky interior and user-friendly infotainment while offering a huge maximum cargo area. Handling and ride quality are nicely balanced, and fuel economy is above average for the segment.

The sole powertrain offering for the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission. That unimpressive power figure is up to the task of getting you around town but not much more. Getting up to highway speeds takes a beat, and you really have to step on the gas for merging or passing. The transmission isn’t bad on its own, but it amplifies the engine’s struggles.

The 2023 Outlander returns an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with standard front-wheel drive or 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive. These estimates are good for a compact SUV.
