After developing WWF Warzone and WWF Attitude, Acclaim Entertainment found themselves with the ECW video game license. The WWF had moved onto a partnership with AKI and THQ, so Acclaim had the opportunity to take everything they learned from War Zone and Attitude to present gamers with something special for their debut ECW game.
Instead of trying something new, Acclaim decided to simply reskin WWF Attitude when releasing ECW Hardcore Revolution. Their follow-up release, Anarchy Rulz, had a few new additions but at it's very core it was still the same clunky gameplay that WWF fans tolerated back in 1998 and 1999. Instead of Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H and Undertaker fans could now play as RVD, Sabu, Taz and Tommy Dreamer. The poor reviews rolled in while sales stayed extremely low.
