If there's one Jurassic Period predator that stands out from the crowd as the most famous of all, it has to be Allosaurus. It's the quintessential Jurassic theropod, the top predator of the Morrison Formation, and one of the most iconic carnivorous dinosaurs that isn't Tyrannosaurus.

Thriving on the plains and in the open woodlands of North America, between one hundred and fifty five and one hundred and forty five million years ago, this large meat eater would go on to become one of the first well known and thoroughly studied animals of the clade theropoda, drawing the attention of both scientific minds and members of the general public alike. In today's video, we will be exploring this incredible animal's natural history in detail, taking you back to the time of the giant sauropods and stegosaurs; the Late Jurassic of what is now the western and central United States of America.

This was a time of vast floodplains, permeated by forested regions of ferns, ginkgos, conifers and cycads. Allosaurus was the ruler of this land, an apex predator in a land of giants.
