Here is how I was able to reduce my home's property tax assessed valuation in Pelham, New York.

Basic steps:
1. Get RP-524
2. Find out when is grievance day in your town or city.
3. Make an appointment to be heard on grievance day.
4. Ask the assessor for a copy of your tax card.
5. Look up comparable homes in your neighborhood, online or at the assessor's office.
6. Fill out RP-524, attached the comparable properties.
7. Bring RP-524 to the assessor the day before your appointment.
8. Go to the Grievance Day appointment.
9. Wait for a letter from the assessor with a decision.
10. If you don't like the decision, hire a lawyer, get an appraisal, and take your municipality to court.
