After battling the alcohol addiction which nearly killed her, Michelle Heaton worked tirelessly to get into the best shape of her life.

But despite now being super fit, toned and enviably lean, the Liberty X star was left saddened by the stubborn loose skin around her stomach which simply wouldn’t shift no matter how many hours she spent in the gym.

Years of yo-yo dieting, two C-sections, a hysterectomy and the effects of menopause had all contributed to the issue and at one point Michelle even considered going under the knife to fix it.

However, she has finally learned to embrace her so-called “imperfections” and is now on a mission to help other women do the same.

Michelle, 44, who is three years sober, says: “The only way really to get rid of saggy skin is to cut it away and so yes, I did think about it. But I know I can’t make my body go through something like that optionally when I’ve already had to do so much health-wise. That’s not a path I plan on going down.

“Having loose skin is natural. It is what it is. I’ve got all this skin and lots of scars as well. I don’t have the ‘perfect’ body, but I’m really happy in it. And I’m glad to be able to shed some light so other women can know that you don’t have to look a certain way to feel body positive.”

Last week, in a bid to normalise loose skin, Michelle bravely posted a candid bikini picture to Instagram showing the loss of elasticity around her midriff – an area she usually keeps deliberately covered with high-waisted gym leggings.

It might have taken her time to come to terms with her body, but she insists it doesn’t define her and she’s no longer searching for the non-existent miracle cure.
