Typically, the response to pedestrian fatalities is asserting that people have a personal responsibility to remain safe. In actuality, safety is an infrastructure concern and the design of the roads need to reinforce good driving behavior. Road diets are more effective at reducing collisions and fatalities than simply reminding people to remain safe.
