With many modern franchises attempting to "go back to their roots" I thought it would be worth discussing the implications of this trend. Games like Resident Evil 7, Call of Duty World War 2, Doom and many other franchises have made a conscious effort to get back aspects present in prior titles. This video will discuss whether that's a good thing or if it can make a game feel old and outdated. We will also look at a few games like Yooka-Laylee and a Hat in Time as examples of NEW franchises that attempted to go back to the roots of a genre.
