Northeast Africa and the Middle East share a lot in common, including language, religion, and wildlife. In large part, this is because they are connected by the isthmus of Suez, a stretch of land in Egypt lying between the Mediterranean and Red seas, crossed by the Suez Canal. But the Suez isn't the only place where Asia and Africa approach each other. Another such place is right here, the Bab-el-Mandeb between Yemen, Djibouti, and Eritrea, and it has a rich history all its own. Let's Explore!
