Spanish brand Cupra is still new to Australia, so what better way to make a name for yourself than release a new electric car with a genuinely long driving range and a relatively low price? Enter the 2023 Cupra Born.

Yep, this small hatchback is looking to shake up the establishment with a battery-electric powertrain that can last up to 511km (WLTP) between charges and 'only' costs $59,990 plus on-roads – that makes it the cheapest EV with at least 500km of driving range, if you don't mind.

Needless to say, the Born should have the established Nissan Leaf, soon-to-be-released GWM Ora and upcoming Volkswagen ID.3 shaking in their proverbial boots. But in this expert review, CarsGuide Journalist Tom White finds out if the new Cupra model stands out more than just on paper.
