Negative peace is often seen as a situation of an absence of violence - but is it really peace? Positive peace, on the other hand, has more to do with eliminating the underlying conditions that lead to violence, and can maybe been seen as more of a true peace. Peace researcher Johan Galtung had a fundamental role in the development of these ideas.
