The Daleks are as iconic to Doctor who as the Blue Tardis, or the Time Lord himself. Being around since the second ever story and quickly becoming a staple for the series. So when it came to brining back the iconic monster to the new revamped show, the correct decision was made, to make the first new Dalek story about one solitary Dalek. This episode showed a Dalek's raw power and capacity for destruction, showed us what they really are and gave us a reason to be afraid of them again, like so many were back in the day.
