In this interview, Arshan caught up with Dom Corleo during KTO’s recent trip to NYC. Dropping his first single “Baby I’m Rude” in 2020, Dom rose to notoriety this year after his song “Penthouse Shordy” went viral on TikTok. He followed that single with his video for “Ginseng”, which has almost 400k views in 3 months. His first project, Forgive Me for My Sins, dropped in March 2022, & he recently dropped the video for “Converse / Fly as Hell”, directed by Dotcomnirvan.
Starting their conversation, Dom talks about having family in New York & explains why he had random women next to him in his first interview. He says he regrets that moment & avoids watching it, admitting there was a lot he felt he didn’t get to say. Dom reveals he watches KTO, Faze Rug, & PrankvsPrank on YouTube, and he speaks on common misunderstandings about him. He says he regrets being a hater at one point in his life, but now he focuses on himself. He briefly talks about his experience being an introvert in high school, before explaining the process of recording “Penthouse Shordy” & how it blew up on TikTok. He explains how Yung Lean inspired his video for “Ginseng” & names other inspirations like Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Drake, & Destroy Lonely. Dom then explains how he marketed his music & talks about listening to Hardrock, Rollin Thrax, Southsidesilhouette, & Glokk40spaz.
Dom mentions being fired from his job at Home Depot before discussing how “not being mysterious” works for him & whether or not he looks like Walter Jr from Breaking Bad. Dom talks about ignoring Destroy Lonely comparisons, toxic egos in underground rap, & how no artist wants to stay underground. They end their conversation discussing the effort Dom puts into his projects & some of the producers he works with, including BNYX, FISH, & Lunchbox. Kids Take Over is based in Vancouver, Canada.
