In this interview, Arshan speaks with rapper, Lancey Foux, who’s from East London, UK. We caught up with Lancey during a brief 1 day trip to LA, following his show in Vancouver. Releasing his first album PINK in 2017, Lancey Foux gained national notoriety with the release of his 2019 album, Friend or Foux. His song “INDIA” has almost 7 million plays on Spotify alone, while his recent collaboration with Yeat, “Luv monëy” is approaching 3 million streams.
At the beginning of their conversation, Lancey shows appreciation to Arshan and the brand he’s built with KTO, before describing how UK rap is less documented and underrated compared to the US. He lists the songs he listens to on a flight (Marvin Gaye, Future, & himself), discusses the “London swag”, Skepta, and how his aesthetic matches his lifestyle. The conversation shifts to Kanye West, who Lancey thinks is more tapped in than people realize, and he describes going to the Donda listening event where other artists showed him love.
Lancey talks about not being motivated by social media or showing off, Gary Vee following him on IG, and watching Matt Armstrong on YouTube. Arshan and Lancey talk about watching Rick and Morty and Breaking Bad, before Lancey describes his history with members of Carti’s Opium label, Ken Carson & Destroy Lonely. Lancey says that if he ran a media outlet he would only use it to support other artists, before talking about the importance of ignoring comparisons. He details his relationship with Kaycyy Pluto and talks about enjoying Brent Faiyaz’s music, before revealing that he wants to make more music for female fans. Lancey acknowledges the hilarity of his fans moshing to slow songs, before talking about his best lyrics (‘DONT TALK’), and his first time meeting Pop Smoke. Lastly, the conversation ends with them discussing the relevance and accuracy of the term “underground” to describe certain artists. Kids Take Over is based in Vancouver, Canada.
