Today we archive a very special horror game. Blurred Weird Night is a horror game made by a single developer and it caught my eye during the Steam Next Fest a while back. Its a traditional Asian horror game set at night while you follow a crew of content creators who make videos about ghost sightings.
Since you follow a larger group of characters it reminded me of other Asian horror games like Dreadout, White Day and The Bridge Curse. The cool thing about all these horror games is that it often takes a break in between scary bits to focus on the various characters with some funny or interesting dialogue. The reason why that is so good is that it calms the player down in between the tense bits, which makes it easier to play in longer sections. Some horror games drop you in dark, brown, repetitive areas for the entierty of the game and it can become a real drag to keep playing those.
But Blurred Weird Night does a great job to offer some funny scenes and interactions with the characters in between puzzle segments or chase sequences.
Its also a massive game with beautiful and detailed enviroments. The game is quite large in scope with many different areas you go to and many characters you will interact with.
The story also becomes very wild and you can reach different endings by making choices on who makes it towards the end or not.
There is only one really major problem with this game and I feel that it's big enough to where it might ruin the experience for some and that is the translation. The English translation in this is unfortunately very poor and it ends up often making no sense. Because of this it is sometimes very unclear on what is expected of the player and large storybits can go over your head.
Its a real shame, because the game is very ambitious with many different characters, many sidequests, varied enemies and gameplay segments and even large sprawling enviroments. The passion is there and you can defintiely see it. Its just so unfortunate that English speakers cannot enjoy it to its fullest potential, because of the translation. If the translation was good it could easily compete with the others like Bridge Curse or Dreadout. I hope that the creator in the future will still update the game with some improved translations, because this game deserves it.
