Today we archive an awesome new VR game known as HappyFunland. This game was on my radar for quite a bit, since it seemed like another mascot horror game. But the end result was actually much, much more than that.
We head on over to the abandoned amusement park of HappyFunland and will partake in various minigames and ride different attractions. What is really cool about this game is that its all connected through a story and setting in which you can walk around in.
At first I expected it to be just minigame after minigame, but there are plenty of times where you can just explore the areas and take in the awesome atmosphere. And the game's art is surprisingly charming and also very funny. The game is a bit cheeky and it always made me laugh and curious on where it would take me next. It does not take itself too seriously and I would love to see more of this world and setting in the future.
You get to participate in minigolf, ride various coasters where you have to dodge obstacles and even partake in a FPS section on a pirate ship. There are many homages to attractions we know and love from Disneyland and I was surprised with how detailed these were with lovely props and models that were used like dinosaurs or creepy ghosts and monsters in the haunted mansion.
Probably the least favorite part was the combat which felt a bit jank at times and unresponsive. I believe the enemies are invulnerable for a while after you hit them and that made combat a bit of an odd experience. Other than that it was a pleasant surprise and I hope to see more of these mascots in the future!
