This is the story of how the oil well fires in Kuwait in 1991 were extinguished. The Kuwaiti oil fires were caused by the Iraqi military setting fire to more than 700 oil wells.

For stubborn oil well fires, the use of a gas turbine to blast a large volume of water at high velocity at the fire proved popular with firefighters in Kuwait and was brought to the region by Hungarians equipped with MiG-21 engines mounted originally on a T-34 tank (later replaced with T-55 tank), named "Big wind".
