We will show you how to make the classic Chinese style BBQ pork (char siu). It is easy to make and the final result is fantastic.

Instructions:
Gather your ingredients:
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice wine (shaoxing cooking wine)
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon salt
2 teaspoons ground five spice powder
5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 piece fresh ginger, sliced
2 tablespoons bean curd
¼ cup bean curd liquid (60 mL)
¼ cup hoisin sauce (65 g)
½ cup honey (170 g)
2 lb boneless pork shoulder or boneless pork butt ( 900kg)

Cut your pork into pieces that are about 2 inches wide by 1 inch thick. To get a better guage of the size, imagine how it will look sliced and if the pieces will resemble Chinese BBQ pork after slicing.

Make your sauce by combining all the ingredients (except the pork) and mix together. Then add the pork. Marinade this at least 4-5 hrs if possible. You can also marinade it overnight (which will end up being a marinade time of up to 24hrs).

When you are ready to cook, preheat your oven on Bake to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (or 150 Celsius). If you have a wire rack or roasting rack, place it in a roasting pan or tray. Take the pork out of the marinade and place it on the wire rack. If you do not have a wire rack, you can place it in the tray directly.

Cook your pork by placing it in the pre-heated oven. Set a time for 1.5hrs or 90 minutes.

Boil the leftover marinade to reduce it to about a quarter or until you have a thick sauce (be careful not to burn it). Take it off the heat and set aside.

After 15 minutes of cooking, take the tray of pork out of the oven and place it on a heat-safe surface. Apply the boiled marinade to the pork. Flip the pork and marinade the other side. Place it back in the oven and cook again for 15 minutes. Repeat this process through the 1.5hrs of cooking time (a total of 5 times of basting).

After you are finished cooking, take the pork of the oven and place it on a heat safe surface. Let the pork rest for 10 minutes.

Slice the pork and serve with rice and vegetables for a full meal. The Chinese BBQ pork (char siu) can be used for a variety of other dishes such as cut up into fried rice, soup noodles, etc.
