Chinese challenger brand GWM has lobbed its much anticipated large seven-seat SUV, the Tank 500, to steal thunder (and sales) from the likes of Toyota’s Land Cruiser 300.
Boasting 255kW and 648Nm of turbo-petrol hybrid output paired with a nine-speed auto and dual-range 4x4, the family hauler promises a heap of luxury in a go-almost-anywhere format. Pricing starts from $66,490 driveaway.
Chasing Cars’ contributor Dan Gardner takes the high-spec, full bells-and-whistles Ultra version - from $73,990 on road - for a first-drive spin at the Australian local launch.
Is the Tank 500 the plus-sized SUV bargain of 2024? Let’s find out.
