Testing a Hampton Bay branded, Whirlpool manufactured, 25-pints dehumidifier. The unit utilizes a reciprocating compressor with R-500 refrigerant. It likely dates back to the 90s, when Whirlpool still made a top notch piece of equipment.

I picked this up from the curb sometime in I believe either 2019 or 2020. I think it was freshly curbed at the time as the unit was still wet. The bucket had a crack where it latches onto the machine, which I suspect is the reason why it was discarded. The unit was likely in service up until then.

The coil is absolutely filthy, caked with dust and covered in rust. Regardless, it still holds a charge and operates properly decades later. The fan motor has likely never been oiled, yet still turns freely.

I would like to clean this up and put it back into service this year to see how long it will run for. It will likely continue for decades. It's a very simple machine, built to last, just the way it should be.

Unfortunately the same can't be said about the buckets, they were very prone to breaking and are quite rare at this point. Sourcing a replacement will be highly unlikely. We will probably need to get some kind of replacement container for collecting the water, which shouldn't be too hard.

I doubt I will be able to find a container that will work with the automatic shutoff, but this isn't a big deal. The system these used wasn't the best anyways, and this is not a particularly powerful machine. It will not fill up rapidly.
