These step-by-step instructions and video detail how to replace the tail lights bulbs on a 2010 Ford Focus SE, and the replacement steps will be similar to 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Ford Focus models. Replacing a burned out or failing tail lights bulb helps you see clearly, follow road laws, and lets other drivers know of your vehicle’s presence on the road. If your Focus’s tail light bulbs are burned out or malfunctioning, you should replace both tail light bulbs together since they will likely fail at around the same time. O’Reilly Auto Parts carries tail light bulbs, headlight bulbs, and other exterior light bulbs for your Ford Focus to help you make your repairs.

The tail lights on your Ford Focus help you see where you’re going in poor weather or darkness, and are required by law to work properly. Changing a dim, flickering, or burned out tail light bulb on your 2004-2011 Ford Focus is a simple repair that can help you see better while driving. It’s recommended that when changing one tail light bulb, the other should be replaced as well, since both bulbs have been used for the same amount of time and will likely fail around the same age. Failing tail lights bulbs on your Ford Focus can make it difficult for other drivers to see your vehicle on the road, and could put you and others in danger. Our detailed instructions can help you perform a tail light bulb replacement on your Ford Focus to keep you safe on the road.

Open the trunk… and use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the trim panel on the back side of the tail light.
Depending on the design, you may also need to remove the middle trim panel.
Once the panel is out of the way, you’ll remove the two 11mm nuts securing the tail light assembly.
One of the bolts will be recessed, so use your deep socket to reach that nut.
After the nuts have been removed, disengage the assembly by pulling straight out toward the rear of the car, being careful not to damage the snap retainer toward the top.
There will still be wires connecting the assembly, so be sure not to pull it out too far.
Once the assembly is released, turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly… and pull straight out on the bulb to remove it from its socket.
To install the new tail light bulb, simply push it into the socket… then turn it clockwise into the assembly to secure it.
Reinstall the tail light assembly by positioning it in the opening… then push in until you hear the retainer snap into place.
Reinstall the nuts on the back side using your 11mm socket.
We recommend you change tail lights in pairs, so repeat these steps on the other side.
Reinstall the trim panels… tighten the screws with your Phillips head screwdriver… and close the trunk.
