This exercise is what we call a body scan. It’s helpful for many reasons, like learning to pay more attention to what’s happening in the present moment, and as a grounding exercise when the mind is spending too much time worrying or ruminating. We also tend to carry a lot of stress in the body without realizing it, and this practice makes it easier to let go of that unnecessary tension. But it also helps develop the critical skill of awareness, which has countless real-life benefits.
