Vernica Martinez, 40, is a Local 3 union electrician who's been working in her trade for nearly 20 years. She's worked her way up from apprentice to journeywoman and currently makes $58 an hour. Born and raised in the Bronx, Vernica now lives outside the city in Orange County, New York with her husband and two daughters.
