If you’re in the market for a new dirt bike, odds are you’re looking at getting a KTM 2 stroke enduro model… they’re selling like hotcakes right now! And it’s no wonder really, they present an excellent package that can do it all. But there is one major catch… the price. In fact a baseline 250EXC here in New Zealand, costs 17 grand! Which gets me wondering, about old Yamahas? You see, my ‘09 YZ250 (which admittedly is in quite a sorry state) would be lucky to fetch four grand at auction… yet I could easily set the same laptimes on it around a motocross track as I could the brand-new KTM... and enduro’s never been THAT much of a far cry from motocross. So I wondered what it might take to transform the old girl into a KTM killing woods weapon! And whether I could do it for less that it’d cost to just go out and buy the KTM in the first place…
