Here's weekly dose of your catastrophic engine forensics! Every week you can find a new teardown of some abused, misused and/or poorly designed engine. I've got over 160 videos of failed engine teardowns on this channel.
Today's engine isn't your classic lack of maintenance or poor design failure. Nope. This is what can happen when you severely overfill your crankcase with oil. Its not super common, but when it happens it can be just as detrimental to an engines health as not enough oil. This is a 66,000 mile Jaguar AJ126 3.0L Supercharged V6 from a 2017 Jaguar XE AWD. This came from a salvage yard that bought the XE for parts and drained over 9 quarts of oil from the pan, when it only holds 5.7. Its clear by the damage done that this engine ran as long as it could before it nearly seized. Lets take this one apart and find out what kind of damage can be done by this sort of mistake.

Why am I doing this? My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto salvage business in the Saint Louis area. Part of our model includes dismantling bad and core engines to salvage the good parts from. We do not rebuild engines, merely sell parts to those who do!

I really hope you enjoyed this teardown. As always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism!
Catch you on the next one!

-Eric
