Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The film so many people eagerly anticipated in 2008, and the film that left so many people disappointed. Does the movie stink? Is it a masterpiece? I don't think I can answer that -- I think that's a question people need to answer for themselves. BUT -- I do think the film has some fascinating themes tightly woven through it, which I try to pick apart in this video.

George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, David Koepp, and so many others certainly put in the effort to make a great follow-up to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and the Last Crusade... an Indiana Jones film unlike anything we'd ever seen before. And on that latter front at least, they clearly succeeded. With James Mangold ending the saga of Ford's famous archaeologist with Dial of Destiny, it seemed fitting to take a look at the way the Indiana Jones franchise softly rebooted itself for a new era.
