Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Disha.
The basic concept of the sport includes a child and a mother competing in a race together.
If the mother is not present then the father or any other responsible person selected by that child can participate as a team member.
The objective of the race for each team is to finish the entire course in the shortest duration of time.
The game takes place on a long course that has relevant markings and tracks made on it.
There are two circles, starting and ending which are connected by two parallel lines that act as a track.
In the game, one team member verbally directs their blindfolded partner around a course in the shortest possible time.
Each team participates separately in the contest.
At the beginning of the track, there is a start circle of radius around 2 feet diameter.
The team is required to stand inside of this circle while starting the play.
Once the bell rings, the race begins and teammates start running towards the end of the course.
The elder member of the team is carefully blindfolded.
The child must stand on the feet of the elder member and give directions such as stop, go ahead, walk, turn left, turn right, etc to guide the elder member.
Teammates cannot converse with each other in any other way or form except for the instructions.
The blindfolded member must follow the instructions quietly no matter what.
Both team members are required to face in the same direction throughout the race.
Players are not allowed to leave their track and if both the feet of the participants go out of anyone line then it will be counted as foul.
Participants will not be given a foul if only one foot crosses the line.
The referee carefully keeps track of the time taken by each team to cover the entire course.
Along with the time, fouls are also noticed.
The team that takes the least amount of time to complete the entire course is declared as the winner.
If there is a draw between two themes, the team with fewer fouls will be declared as the winner.
