What I would consider a pretty new car only 40,000 miles on it came through the auction I attended knocking very badly. The sound changed to metal scraping as the rod bearing started spinning inside of the journal with the crank, it then friction welded itself to either the crank or rod, or both, and locked the engine up solid. Lack of lubrication most likely the culprit, possibly bad oil pump or the car simply ran out of oil. This auction was a bad display for Kia as another apparent nice new Kia came through pouring out a cloud of smoke from a bad head gasket just before this.
