The survival horror genre is one that is very dear to my heart and I have already archived many of these types of games in the past. But the grand daddy of them all is actually Alone in the Dark and this will be the first game from that franchise that will be added to my archives.
Earlier releases were not received well, which is why it took so long for the franchise to be rebooted, but with this release they seem to be back in form. You play as a detective who is voiced by David Harbour and we visit a giant mansion in search for the uncle of our female companion.
It does not take long before strange things start to occur and we travel to various locations including the streets of New Orleans and even ancient, Egyptian tombs.
In temrs of gameplay mechanics it takes inspiration from the recent Resident Evil remakes, which is ironic since the original RE was inspired by the original Alone in the Dark. The action in this game feels great and some of the puzzles are really excellent and require more than just to find another key or fuse.
There were a few technical errors though, unfortunately, as I encountered stutters or bugs where I got stuck in the enviroment or could not use a prompt. Other than that I had a great time with the game and hope that this series will steer in a new and better direction!
