Avoidant Personality Disorder is a chronic personality disorder (Cluster C personality disorder) that involves a dysfunctional pattern of behavior involving a variety of difficulties in multiple/generalized social situations. Risk factors for having Avoidant Personality Disorder include genetics (family history), past experiences as a child, and particular temperaments as a child. In this lesson, we also discuss the DSM-5 criteria for symptoms and diagnosing Avoidant Personality Disorder along with methods of treatment and prognosis of patients with Avoidant Personality Disorder.
