Social psychologist and author Dr. Ellen J. Langer gave a free webinar as part of the Alan Hu Foundation Mental Health Lecture Series on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 4:30 – 5:30 PM PT via Zoom. Dr. Langer’s talk was based upon her latest book, “The Mindful Body: Thinking Our Way to Chronic Health”, where she shows that “the mind and body are a single system, and if we embrace the idea of mind-body unity, new possibilities for controlling our health become available to us.” The webinar included 15 minutes for questions and answers following Dr. Langer’s presentation.

The Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities at https://www.mhacc-usa.org provided simultaneous Chinese interpretation.

Dr. Langer is widely known as the “mother of mindfulness” and the “mother of positive psychology”. She has authored hundreds of research articles and thirteen books. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, three Distinguished Scientist Awards, the Staats Award for Unifying Psychology, and the Liberty Science Genius Award. She is a member of the Psychology Department at Harvard University, and a gallery exhibiting painter.

The Alan Hu Foundation was created by Xiaofang Chen and Chih-Ching Hu in memory of their son, Alan. He passed away due to mental disorders in 2018 at the age of 15. Their mission is to promote mental health, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders, and to support fundamental research for cures.
