The plug-in hybrid version of Ford’s excellent mid-size SUV is now on sale, but it doesn’t come cheap 👉 Full Review: https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial...

The 2022 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) has finally arrived in Australia, marking the Blue Oval brand’s first foray into electrification Down Under.

Packing a 167kW punch from its 2.5-litre petrol-electric engine, the PHEV also enables a zero-emissions driving range of more than 50km and officially sips fuel at a rate of just 1.5L/100km.

How much are you prepared to pay for such an Escape? Ford Australia is offering the plug-in medium SUV for $53,440 plus on-road costs at launch (rising by $1000 from July 1, 2022) – a hefty $15K premium over the equivalent Escape ST-Line that delivers 183kW from its 2.3-litre turbo.

Scott Newman asks whether it’s really worth it, putting the Escape PHEV to the test around the streets of Melbourne.
