In this video, we show an example of a major tilt-tracker system failure on a 6.1MW solar farm. These system failures were found during a solar inspection flight using a drone with thermal imaging and RGB cameras. As we move across the solar farm you can see huge sections of trackers that have stopped working. These large anomalies can be seen in both thermal and RGB imaging where rows of panels are facing a different angle than the majority of the PV system. As we move closer to the modules, you will notice several damaged panels caused by the faulty tracker system.

A solar tracker is a commonly used device in large utility-scale solar arrays. These devices orient the solar modules toward the sun to increase solar system efficiency and conversion rates. Frequent preventive maintenance is required on many components of the trackers including motors, sensors, and gears to decrease the likelihood of failure.
