Melissa Robinson, 2021 winner of the RWJF Award for Health Equity, is the Executive Director of the Black Health Care Coalition. Melissa is focused on improving birth outcomes for Black and poor infants through an innovative community approach that builds awareness, increases prenatal care, and educates and empowers mothers, fathers, and families. Among other topics, Melissa discusses the Community Baby Shower, which focuses on birth inequities; as the importance of coming to communities with questions rather than solutions; and the Coalition’s efforts to address social determinants of health by advancing secure housing, full employment, and reliable transportation.
