At the same time as developing the Model 92, Beretta designed a variant capable of firing in bursts: the Beretta 93R R for "Raffica" (Italian for burst).

These weapons, initially intended for police forces, were produced from 1977 to the 1990s. Although this weapon was not a great commercial success, its futuristic aesthetics make it a fixture in cultural works (cinema, video games, TV series, etc.).

The Beretta 93R is, in a way, the return of the automatic pistol concept that dates back to the First World War with the Schnellfeuer. These automatic pistols make regular appearances in history, along with the Stechkin, Glock 18... but never seem to find any real success.
