Hey guys, Dad here. I'm working on crafting my third ABS (American Bladesmith Society) presentation knife, and it's designed to be a fighter-style blade. I'm using 5160 steel, which is like the spring steel found in cars, and it's certified quality steel with a clean pedigree, so there's a minimal chance of imperfections. The rules require using single carbon steel, so I'm avoiding Damascus patterns.

I'm really focused on getting the blade just right, grinding it carefully for a smooth transition to the tip, and creating a precise edge. I'm using a 120-grit slack belt for a nice convex shape and following a scribe line to ensure a clean blade edge. The guard fitting process is meticulous, involving a lot of handwork to achieve a perfect fit.

I'm using different materials like stainless steel and a custom copper alloy for the guard, spacer, and handle. The whole handle attachment process involves shaping, filing, engraving, and making sure everything fits together flawlessly. Heat treatment is crucial for durability, and I'm showing all the steps to achieve that toughness.

Ultimately, you'll see the completed knife, highlighting its visual appeal and practicality. Throughout the video, I'm emphasizing the importance of precision, attention to detail, and the satisfaction that comes from crafting something with your own hands.
