Indonesian villagers have been pulling hundreds of corpses from tombs as part of a ritual to honour their ancestors. The ceremony, called the Ma’nene, has long been carried out by the Toraja, an ethnic group of around a million people on Sulawesi island. Families gather to check on their deceased loved ones, some of whose mummified bodies remain intact. The ceremony is said to be held every few years, usually beginning around late August.
