Rishi Sunak unveiled £15bn of support to help with rising energy bills, which will be funded in part by a windfall tax on energy firms.

Pensioners are in line to receive a total lifeline of £850 from the Government to help them cope with the cost-of-living crisis, Rishi Sunak has said as he unveiled a raft of new financial support for the nation.

The Chancellor announced all households will receive a £400 handout to help take the sting out of rising energy bills as he doubled the value of a previously announced £200 discount and turned it from a loan into a grant.
