Acclaimed quarterback Tom Brady swapped the American football pitch for a Hollywood premiere on Tuesday (January 31) as he helped launched the comedy "80 for Brady".

He turned out to pose alongside veteran and award-winning actors, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno and Sally Field.

The film follows the quartet of stars, who play passionate sports fans, as they try and live their dream to go to the Super Bowl and perhaps meet Brady.

Speaking at the premiere about understanding her character, Fonda said "I'm a baseball girl myself, I don't really understand football but yes, women love sports and it's nice to see a film that shows older women are out there rooting for their athletic heroes."

And for Brady, it comes as no surprise that women are as passionate about sports as men.

He said "I grew up in a house of women who all played sports. My mom is the most competitive person I've ever been around, my sisters, all of them are athletes, my nieces are all athletes, absolutely. It appeals to a lot of people, as it should. Sports bring so many people together in our communities and it's a great way to bring families together. Super Bowl Sundays here, although I'm not playing, I'll be watching, it's a great day in our country to get all our families together and enjoy a really special day."

Brady also felt inspired by the four women, saying "They're working hard and they love it so good for them, you know. That's what life's about. You've got to wake up every day with a purpose and when you find something you love to do, it's hard to stop. You really enjoy it and there's a lot of aspects that you really enjoy so they still bring it at this age, it's really unbelievable to watch them on set and how much energy they have and I certainly was inspired by them and learned a lot of lessons through this whole experience."

While some became fans of how Brady looks – Lily Tomlin said "He was such a handsome, beautiful boy-man. He looks like a boy, like he could be 20 years old” – the director, Kyle Marvin, was very impressed by his performance.

He told Reuters "I think his performance really shines in this movie. I think he really goes for it and it's pretty amazing. He's great to work with, he's a producer on the film as well so we talked about what this movie means and the message behind, which is really supporting people who want to support football, who love football, celebrating that culture."

And with the Super Bowl approaching, who does Brady think will claim the coveted title?

"A tie. I want a tie and go to next season with no champion," he said.

’80 for Brady’ goes on release in the United States on February 3.
