You need to keep the water moving in your pond and a waterfall or moving air bubbles with both work. If you have any questions about anything just ask in the comments. Koi pond air pumps are a great addition even if you have a waterfall. The air stone dropped in a low spot or a spot that need a little more circulation is a good idea. The bubbles from the air stone move a lot of water and help oxygenate your koi pond.

The filter intake is in the shallow end at about 1.5 feet deep and it normally runs all winter with no problem but this year we had a lot of leaves just before a cold front while we were gone. The shallow end of the pond was already frozen when we got home so it will be spring before I can get to it.

I might move one of the air stones to help get to it a little sooner. I try to keep moving water in the waterfall for the birds, they seem to like that a lot.
