Artis Gilmore is a retired American professional basketball athlete renowned for his time in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on August 12, 2011, Gilmore initially gained attention as a standout centre during his college years at Jacksonville University. There, he propelled the Dolphins to the NCAA Division I championship game in 1970, though they were ultimately defeated by the UCLA Bruins with a score of 80-69. Notably, Gilmore still holds the record for the highest rebounds per game average in Division I history
