Nanomaterials behave differently from their bulk counterparts due to their small size and large surface area. Scientists can tune the composition, size, and shape of nanomaterials to engineer something completely new with ideal properties. For example, tiny silver clusters can have antimicrobial properties, two-dimensional silver wires can make foldable touchscreens, and ultra-thin silver films can be used in solar cells. The uniqueness of nanomaterials makes nanotechnology exciting and diverse!

This video was produced by the Micro Nano Technology Education Center (MNT-EC) in collaboration with UC San Diego and Omni Nano in an effort to support STEM education and spread awareness. A special thank you to Jason Barquero for his work on the voiceover. MNT-EC is funded by the National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education program – grant number 2000281.
